We are currently in the middle of the State of Origin rugby league tournament. It takes place every year between two interstate teams from New South Wales and Queensland. Being one of the largest sporting events in Australia it is only natural that companies take advantage of this publicity. This promotion was recently spotted at a store in Sydney. Every time you purchase a NSW jersey you get a free polo shirt.

This type of promotion is a good way of increasing brand awareness. The large open space on polo shirts and jerseys provide excellent room for advertisements. As seen in the pictures, NSW has taken advantage of this and printed their logo visibly on both products. Since the GWP will add extra incentive to purchase, more people will buy the jersey, thus more people will become exposed to the brand.

The exclusivity of this bag is what caught our eye. This is a good example of how promotional products don't need to be low-cost items. Both high-end and low-end brands successfully use it in their marketing campaigns and there are good reasons behind this.

They don't only incentivize purchase - but also works as a a type of advertisement when customers use the products. They will give the brand more exposure and increase the likelihood of new customers purchasing their products. Brand retention will also increase since customers constantly will be reminded of the brand when they see the logo and promotional product.

The high-end, American manufacturer of skincare, cosmetics, toiletries and fragrances, Clinique, is currently running a promotional, Gift with Purchase (GWP) campaign. In which they are giving away a Clinique travel cosmetic case, with every purchase of their 'New Sonic System Purifying Brush', as can be seen from the picture below.

Clinique may have decided to run this campaign in order to add even more incentive to purchase their brand new product, the purifying cleaning brush. Although there are also other benefits to consider.

Firstly, as mentioned above there's added incentive, because consumers will perceive the brand and product as expensive, but despite this, cosmetic pouches can be made very inexpensively.

Celebrate WA: Promotional Giveaway

Many haven't heard of the Australian holiday, Western Australia Day, also known as WA day. Although this is all about to change through Celebrate WA's social media and promotional campaign they're running.

Throughout this campaign, Celebrate WA have used unique and clever methods to get consumers onto social media to spread word of the holiday and their website - on which they sell tickets to a WA weekend music festival.

One method they used was to run a giveaway, which you can win by 'pledging to relax' and tweeting about how they're relaxing on the holiday, with the hashtag #WADay. This social media exposure will drastically increase the amount of visitors to their website, and ultimately, sales of the festival tickets.

They've also used promotional merchandise to raise awareness. For their giveaway, they ran with the relaxing holiday, sunny weather vibe - such as flip flops, as can be seen below.

These are also used to raise awareness of their social media presence and their website. Not only do flip flops make extremely relevant products for their campaign, they are also inexpensive to use as part of a give away.

It's these reasons that we felt we had to write about the extremely clever campaign being run by Celebrate WA! We came to learn about this project, on Twitter, from the Australian promotional merchandise & marketing company, ABS Marketing.
